Can I use my City Day ticket on trams?

City Day, City Late and Family City Day tickets can be used on Edinburgh Trams, between Newhaven and Ingliston Park & Ride only, as well as Lothian Buses day services. A Network Day ticket is valid for travel to or from Edinburgh Airport.

How frequently do the trams operate?

Our service runs every 7 minutes between 7am and 7pm, out with these times trams run from every 10 minutes. During peak hours Monday to Friday we run additional peak services.

For a fourth year running Edinburgh Trams is partnering up with Pedal for Scotland supporting cyclists as they participate in either the Classic Challenge from Glasgow to Edinburgh or the Big Belter from Glasgow to Edinburgh and back again. 

The event which, taking place on the 8 September is organised by Cycling Scotland and attracts over 10,000 riders, and the tram offers many of them a great way to get to and from the Event Village, just a short distance from the Ingliston Park & Ride stop.

With the Rugby World Cup taking place from September – October, there will be no Autumn Tests in 2019. Instead, Scotland's final preparation for the tournament in Japan will be home and away fixtures against France and Georgia.

The game against France offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy international rugby in the summer sunshine, while the Georgia game is the first ever Scotland Test to played on a Friday evening. BT Murrayfield is playing host to two fixtures:

On Monday 26 August, the spectacular Virgin Money Fireworks Concert will bring together unforgettable orchestral classics from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and fireworks specially choreographed by international pyrotechnics artists Pyrovision — all set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. See the Orchestra up close from a seat at the Ross Theatre, or enjoy a picnic with family in the Gardens.

Edinburgh Trams and Scottish Rugby will be ‘As One’ today when, for the first time, Scotland’s national squad travel direct from BT Murrayfield to Edinburgh Airport for their flight to face France in tomorrow’s opening 2019 Summer Test in Nice.

The squad will travel on a uniquely branded Scottish Rugby Tram, which features fan favourites Stuart Hogg and John Barclay in the new Scottish Rugby kit for the forthcoming season.

Edinburgh Trams has reported its busiest Sunday on record after clocking up over 38,000 customer journeys on Sunday 28 July. Numbers were boosted by a sell-out event at BT Murrayfield seeing fans snap up more than 66,000 tickets to see Liverpool FC take on SSC Napoli.

With 20 trams operating on Sunday, the system was running at maximum capacity with services running from every three minutes.

Edinburgh Trams will be giving festival goers the freedom to stay out till the sun comes up by running an all night service throughout  August. 

The line-up will feature trams running on both Friday and Saturdays going all night long with services from every 20 mins between midnight and 5.30am to keep up with festival revellers.  Restrictions at Ingliston Park and Ride have been lifted on Friday and Saturdays so no one need miss a single beat of the drum, side-splitting joke or dramatic dance move.

BT Murrayfield will host Champions League winners Liverpool for the first time in a pre-season friendly against Serie A stars SSC Napoli on Sunday 28 July, kicking off at 5pm.

The fixture against SSC Napoli in Edinburgh will be the sixth of eight matches Jurgen Klopp’s side will use to build up for the 2019/20 season.  The pre-season preparations follow a successful season where the club won the Champions League and finished narrow runners-up in the Premier League.
