As covid-19 cases continue to rise around Scotland, Edinburgh Trams are committed to ensuring that we are doing everything possible to keep our colleagues and customers safe from the virus.

The name FOCUS+ has been selected for the solution developed as part of the Driver Innovation Safety Challenge (DISC) project. This new name reflects the aim of DISC to deliver a secure and performant wearable technology solution able to improve the safety of drivers and mobile workers by monitoring their fatigue and wellbeing levels.

On Monday 22 June, Scottish Government made it mandatory to wear a face covering on public transport. As part of a campaign to encourage the public to follow government advice and wear a mask, the city’s tram operator has given some of their vehicles a makeover!

Several trams in the system can now be seen wearing blue face coverings whilst carrying essential workers across Edinburgh. These temporary stickers highlight the organisations ‘#StaySafe and Cover Up’ messaging which is mirrored in all their communications.

We’ve attained the ‘Good To Go’ kitemark, recognising that Edinburgh Trams has followed and adapted to Government Covid-19 guidelines in preparation for Edinburgh reopening to tourism.

The ‘Good To Go’ industry standard was developed by VisitBritian in partnership with VisitScotland, Tourism Northern Ireland, VisitEngland and VisitWales.

It is now mandatory that all customers use a face covering when on the tram.

This extra layer of protection allows you and your fellow travellers to #StaySafe if social distancing becomes difficult whilst on board. A face covering should be worn for the duration of your journey.

Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams said:

Will my ticket, smartcard or m-ticket still be checked?

We have introduced ‘touchless’ ticket checking. Ticket checks may take place on tram stops as well as on trams. Please clearly present your ticket, smartcard or m-ticket to the Ticket Inspector.

We recommend using m-tickets or smartcards to reduce surface contact with ticket machines. Remember, all tickets, smartcard and m-tickets must be purchased, validated or activated before boarding the tram otherwise the £10 on board fare will apply.
