Work to connect Edinburgh’s existing tram network to the Newhaven line will see the permanent closure of the York Place stop this week and a temporary suspension of services to other city centre stops.

From Thursday, February 10, trams will run as far as the West End tram stop with alternative arrangements put in place to enable customers to complete their journey.  In April, services will resume as far as a temporary terminus in St Andrew Square.

With the Royal Highland Show fast approaching and festival season on the horizon just beyond that, June is already feeling very busy indeed! Scroll on for some highlights of the calendar this month...

The Royal Highland Show

Thu 19 – Sun 22 June
Nearest tram stop: Ingliston Park & Ride

We're celebrating 11 years of gliding across the city this weekend, and looking back at 11 of the milestones which have shaped our journey so far!

May 2014 – Tramline opens

After several years of construction, and 15 years after a modern tramline was first proposed in 1999, the first trams rolled out of the depot on May 31, 2014. Tram 275 was the first to take passengers from Gyle Centre into Princes Street.

Scotland’s biggest celebration of the best of food, farming and rural life returns to Edinburgh from the 19-22 June this year, and as always, we’ll be on hand to support, with extra trams running all day to the nearby Ingliston Park & Ride tram stop to help visitors get to and from the Royal Highland Show.

Some fluffy faces popped down to the Gogarburn depot for a visit before the show – and while we won’t be sending many trams out with a Heilan Coo on board, keep your eyes peeled for the specially wrapped tram, which is gliding around the city now!

While pop legend Robbie Williams has promised to ‘Entertain You’ when he takes to the stage in Edinburgh later this month, we’ll be on hand to Transport You so that fans can enjoy quick and convenient travel to and from Murrayfield Stadium!

We're pleased to confirm the launch date for our new ‘Tap on, Tap off’ system as Monday 19 May 2025, two weeks from today.

The launch announcement comes following months of testing, working alongside Lothian Buses and our payment provider Flowbird to ensure the security and efficiency of the new system.

Here at Edinburgh Trams, we’re huge rugby fans, and since the tram line opened in 2014, we’ve been inviting game attendees to ‘Try’ the tram to Murrayfield and Hive Stadiums, so we’re proud to throw our support behind Edinburgh Rugby as a Community Partner for the 2024 season.

The partnership formalises a relationship which extends back to the very beginning our Edinburgh operation in 2014.

We're expecting May to be a big month for us, and between the start of the summer concerts at Murrayfield and the launch of our brand-new Tap on, Tap off service, we're very excited that it's finally here!

Edinburgh really feels like it's ramping up towards the summer, now - if you're looking for things to do in the city this month, here's our list of recommendations.
