It’s now quicker and easier to pay for a ticket on Edinburgh’s tram system with the rollout of contactless technology to all stops.

Customers can now purchase their tickets with an enabled debit or credit card at 51 upgraded ticket vending machines without having to use their PIN. The machines also accept Apple Pay and Android Pay on mobile devices.

A review of fares by Edinburgh Trams, effective from February 25, will see some ticket prices change for the first time in two years. 

The price of City Zone day return tickets are frozen at £3.20 and Airport open return tickets, where the return trip can be used at any time, are also held at £8.50. Pre-purchase Airport return tickets bought in advance via the edinburghticket.com website are also frozen at £8.50.

New figures released today (January, 5) show Edinburgh’s tram system is continuing to deliver excellent results. 

Customer journeys increased by more than one million to total 6.6 million for the year. This represented a year on year growth of 19 per cent.

Celebrate 145 years of Edinburgh Rugby and the 1872 Cup this weekend (Saturday, 23) at BT Murrayfield Stadium.

Tens of thousands of rugby fans are set to descend on Murrayfield this Saturday to see Edinburgh v Glasgow for the 1872 Cup and Edinburgh Trams is planning to make sure they miss none of the action.

Edinburgh Trams is trialling a new initiative to help customers who have difficulty standing to find a seat for their journey.

New priority badges, complemented by improved on-board signage, are to be introduced to help ‘priority' customers to communicate their needs without the embarrassment of having to ask for assistance.

A young student has found an unusual use for an Edinburgh Trams poncho – by using it to catch her hair when she had her head shaved for charity.

Sophie Bleau, a sixth form student at Portobello High School, picked up the free poncho from Edinburgh Trams’ stall at City of Edinburgh Council’s annual Streets Ahead road safety event.

Free late-night trams are set for a return as part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

Last year thousands of revellers took advantage of the offer that saw services running through the night and into New Year’s Day.
