Murrayfield Tram Stop

Edinburgh Trams has reported its busiest Sunday on record after clocking up over 38,000 customer journeys on Sunday 28 July. Numbers were boosted by a sell-out event at BT Murrayfield seeing fans snap up more than 66,000 tickets to see Liverpool FC take on SSC Napoli.

With 20 trams operating on Sunday, the system was running at maximum capacity with services running from every three minutes.

Dean Anderson, Customer Experience Manager, said:

“Much like the Six Nations or Autumn Internationals, we were expecting this to be one of our busiest days of the year. We almost doubled the number of staff and stewards normally working to help customers purchase tickets and make sure they got to and from the stadium safely.”

Sarah Singh, Operations Manager, added:

“We’re gearing up for another busy weekend with the Edinburgh International Festival set to get underway on Friday. We have extra resources in place to run additional services when required.”

For the first time, trams will run all night on both Friday and Saturday from 3 August till 25 August with services from every 20 mins between midnight and 5.00am.
