What can I use to pay?

We will accept Visa and Mastercard (including Maestro) cards that display the contactless symbol, or that have been added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.

American Express contactless payment cards are not accepted on the Platform Validators, but can still be used on the Ticket Vending Machines on the platform to pre-purchase tickets.

How will I know what I have been charged?

If you used a contactless-enabled physical card to pay, you can access your payment history via the payment portal, like you currently can for Lothian Buses TapTapCap service. Please note this is not currently available for contactless-enabled devices – you’ll need to check your bank statement for details.

How does Tap On, Tap Off work?

If you use Tap On, Tap Off, you’ll be charged an Adult single fare for each journey you make, and the system will calculate your fare based on the number of journeys. If you make 3 or more journeys in the city zone on one day, the cost is capped at the City DAY Cap price, £5. If you’re travelling to the Airport, your travel will be capped at the Network DAY rate.

Edinburgh Trams will be undertaking some scheduled maintenance in May, which will affect early morning services on two Sundays during the period: 4 & 11 May.

Works will be carried out during the night to minimise impact, affecting the first few services on two Sunday morning timetables. Edinburgh Trams will operate a reduced service, but affected stops won’t be served by the first few trams, which will run every 30 mins until the works are completed.

In April, Edinburgh Trams will be increasing the price of its Authority to Work permits for the first time since 2023. These changes will come into effect from Monday 31 March.

To ensure that work on or near the tramway is carried out safely, it is necessary to obtain authorisation from Edinburgh Trams to agree a safe system of work.

Light rail is often seen as quite a male-dominated environment, but here at Edinburgh Trams, our female colleagues are living examples that couldn’t be further from the truth!

Edinburgh Trams is today announcing an increase in ticket prices, in line with its sister company, Lothian Buses. This is the first time since 2023 that fares have changed and reflects the increased operational costs faced by the operator in the last two years. Fare changes will come into effect from start of service on Sunday 6 April.

The fare changes will see the cost of an Adult Single fare rise from £2 to £2.20, and an Adult Return fare rise from £3.80 to £4.20. Day Tickets will also increase by 50p, to £5.50.

With spring fast approaching and the days getting longer, Edinburgh offers an endless range of shows and activities – whether you’d like to venture outdoors or enjoy some good indoor entertainment – it is still Scotland, after all - our tram stops ar
