The return of a popular fictional character is set to help young children stay safe around Edinburgh’s award-winning tramway following the launch of a new book this week.

As Edinburgh prepares to remember the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, the city’s tram network has announced free travel for veterans and serving members of the army, navy and air force.

Engineering works later this month will see changes to evening and early morning tram services. Essential works are required to replace tracks and points at York Place and Shandwick Place, while at the same time maintenance checks to the overhead line equipment will take place on the recently extended network to Newhaven.

The works commence at 7pm on Friday, October 27, and run until 7am on Sunday November 12 and will be carried out during a 12-hour window each night, from 7pm to 7am.

Edinburgh Trams joined eighteen employers from across the Lowlands of Scotland to receive a prestigious award from the Ministry of Defence for their outstanding support for the Armed Forces Community.

The recipients were presented with their Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award by Commander 51 Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland, Brigadier Jody Davies MBE at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Thursday 5 October 2023.

A long-serving member of the Edinburgh Trams team has received international recognition for his contributions to light rail safety and the delivery of major projects such as the launch of services to Newhaven.

The popular tramway is backing Forever Edinburgh’s initiatives to promote the city’s cultural heritage by featuring some of the city’s incredible sights and attractions on a newly wrapped tram.

The city’s award-winning trams connect the airport and Newhaven, with so many key attractions and sights near the network.

Following the successful launch of passenger services to Newhaven earlier this year, Edinburgh Trams is on track for top honours at another high-profile awards ceremony.

New technology has helped Edinburgh’s popular tram network reach another milestone with the successful processing of over a thousand online applications for works near the tramway.

Edinburgh’s award-winning tramway has enjoyed its busiest month ever, with more than 1.2m customer journeys recorded in August.
