This week, Scotland’s largest celebration of rural life returns to Edinburgh, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve compiled some of our best advice from around the internet and from our years of supporting the Royal Highland Show to help you plan your weekend.

Getting to the Royal Highland Show

We’ve partnered with the event for years to make travel as smooth and easy as possible, and extra trams will be running all day to get you to and from the Show, which is located at the Royal Highland Centre, close to the Ingliston Park & Ride tram stop.

From there, you can either walk to any of the gates using the walking routes below – we’d advise comfortable shoes! Alternatively, take one of our free shuttle buses, which will run from 07:00-21:00 between the tram stop and the East Gate.

You can buy your tickets in advance from Edinburgh Ticket – if you’re bringing the whole herd along, we’d recommend our Family Day Tripper ticket, which allows all-day travel for two adults and up to 3 children. Alternatively, use our new Tap On, Tap Off service for paperless, capped travel if you Tap on and Tap off with your contactless card or device using the Platform Validators.

At the Show

Don’t forget – you’ll need your Royal Highland Show tickets in advance, as they’re no longer being sold on the gates.

You can take a picnic into the venue, but no alcohol is permitted to be brought onto the site or consumed on our trams throughout the weekend.

The forecast is for sunshine – don’t forget your hats and sun cream! (And maybe a waterproof jacket… it’s still Scotland, after all!)

Young people

If you’re taking wee ones along, don’t miss the Discovery Centre, with interactive sessions for kids of all ages. There’s plenty to do across the RHS for younger visitors, including live music, the Grand Parade, and much more.

Free wristbands can be collected from The Rotary Club at both main entrances, which you can write a parent or guardian’s phone number on, to ensure you can be easily reunited with your child if you become separated from them.

U22s with a valid City of Edinburgh Council pass travel for free on the trams!

Highland Hoolie

Attending the Highland Hoolie? Gates open at 18:00, and last entry is at 20:30 on Friday & Saturday evenings. The event is scheduled to finish at 22:30. On a normal timetable, the last tram departs from the Airport at 22:52, although we’ll be running some additional trams after this, to help Hoolie-goers to get home safely. Make sure you leave the event in plenty of time if you’re hoping to be on these last few trams! A shuttle bus will operate two runs from the venue to the tram stop after the event.
