Edinburgh Trams and Gyle Shopping Centre have joined forces this Christmas to welcome a very special passenger to the city’s tram network for the first time.

For one day only, on Monday 3 December, Father Christmas will take a ride on a special ‘Gyle Santa Express’ - just before rushing back to the North Pole to get ready for festive season.

Whilst on board, Santa will be singing Christmas carols, playing games and taking present requests from children ready for the big day. Children will also receive a gift directly from Santa himself.

Edinburgh Trams’ Assistant Marketing Manager, Amy Witherspoon said: “We always want to bring the festive spirit to our network and there’s no better way to do it than by inviting Santa himself to ride with us. We’re looking forward to welcoming children on board for these very special trips which have the extra bonus of raising money for charity, as proceeds from ticket sales will go to Edinburgh Trams’ charity of the year, MS Therapy Centre Lothian.”

Andrew Cronie, Gyle’s Centre Manager said:

"We’re delighted to team up with Edinburgh Trams and Santa.  Having just completed a fantastic refurbishment and, as home to the largest Boots in Edinburgh, M&S, and host of other great places to shop this festive season, we hope all of our Christmas visitors (including those from the North Pole) will find shopping at Gyle an even better experience this year!”

The Santa Express will be making three trips:

  • 10:50am: York Place to Gyle Centre
  • 11:35am: Gyle Centre to St Andrew Square
  • 12:10pm: York Place to Gyle Centre

A limited number of tickets are available and must be pre-purchased online for each Santa Express journey with proceeds going to Edinburgh Trams’ charity of the year, MS Therapy Centre Lothian.

Tickets are priced at £2.70 for a child with an accompanying adult and £1.70 for any extra adults. £2 from the joint tickets and £1 from the additional adult tickets will go straight to the charity. The extra 70p is a service fee to allow selling tickets through an online platform.

Each ticket will allow customers a return journey to their starting point location on any tram on the same day.

For those missing-out on this special festive journey, don’t worry… Santa will also be at Gyle Shopping Centre from 10am on Friday 23 November (for full dates and times see www.gyleshopping.com)!
