Edinburgh Trams scoops top award

Just a couple of weeks after the successful launch of services to Newhaven, Edinburgh’s acclaimed tramway has picked up a top honour at an event celebrating excellence in the Scottish transport sector.

Edinburgh Trams was named ‘Public Transport Operator of the Year’ during the Scottish Transport Awards last night (Thursday, June 22) in Glasgow.

It clinched the coveted title after impressing judges with its ‘Glide to the Future’ campaign ahead of the first passenger service tram on the new route earlier this month

The latest award win recognises the operator’s efforts in building an energetic and self-motivated workforce to meet plans for the Trams to Newhaven extension, and the flexibility it’s shown in responding to changing customer needs.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams’ Managing Director, said the prestigious accolade was testament to the hard work and dedication of the organisation’s entire team.

To be awarded ‘Public Transport Operator of the Year’ shows how committed our highly skilled workforce is to ensuring visitors and residents alike choose to take the tram for work or leisure, whilst maintaining the highest safety and customer service standards.

Now that we have successfully launched services to Leith, Ocean Terminal, and Newhaven, we will continue to work towards making Edinburgh a much more prosperous, greener, and better-connected place to live, work or visit.

The awards were presented at a gala event at Radisson Blue Hotel in Glasgow and offered an opportunity for public transport operators to recognise industry achievements across Scotland.

Last night certainly illustrates the contribution of the Edinburgh Trams team to the future prosperity of our fantastic city, and the importance of the expanded tramway to a growing number of customers.
