Edinburgh’s award-winning tramway will be looking to add yet more accolades to its already impressive trophy cabinet after being named among the front-runners for three prestigious honours.
Having doubled customer numbers over the past 12 months, Edinburgh Trams is on track for the title of UK Operator of the Year at the Global Light Rail Awards and has also been shortlisted in the Most Improved System category.
Pulling out all the stops to ensure Taylor Swift fans enjoyed seamless travel to a series of concerts in the city has also put the operator in the frame for the Best Customer Initiative Award.
The latest award nominations reflect the dedication and commitment of the entire Edinburgh Trams team during a record-breaking year following the launch of the first tram services to Newhaven in June 2023.
Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, commented:
Coming so soon after success in another competition that saw us named as Team of the Year at the Scottish Transport Awards, this recognition from colleagues in the light rail sector is something our entire team can be really proud of.
We’ll be facing some stiff competition at the awards in October, but to be leading contenders in three different categories is a fantastic achievement in itself, and one that reflects the continued popularity of our network with both Edinburgh residents and the millions of visitors the city attracts every year.
The winners of the Global Light Rail Awards will be announced at a gala event in London, and further information can be found here.
