Following the successful launch of passenger services to Newhaven earlier this year, Edinburgh Trams is on track for top honours at another high-profile awards ceremony.
Building on its success at the Scottish Transport Awards, where it scooped the title of Operator of the Year, the acclaimed tramway has now been shortlisted for prestigious accolades at next month’s Global Light Rail Awards.
Held in London, the awards ceremony recognises excellence across the sector, and Edinburgh’s popular trams will be among systems from across the world competing across a range of different categories.
Award entries submitted by Edinburgh Trams highlight its efforts in expanding an energetic and self-motivated workforce ahead of the launch of Trams to Newhaven, and its innovative approach to boosting patronage.
Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams’ Managing Director, commented:
All of our employees can be proud of the part they have played in the business’ story to date. To be in line for further awards is testament to our commitment to making light rail a reliable, value-for-money option for the communities we now serve across Edinburgh’s city centre and its surroundings.
With a clear commitment to taking the popularity of the tram to the next level, we’re confident the network can go from strength to strength and play an increasingly important role in driving the city’s long-term prosperity and its plans for a net-zero future.
Edinburgh Trams is also among the front runners at the National Transport Awards, and further details about the categories it has entered can be found here.
The Global Light Rail Awards will take place at London’s Honourable Artillery Company on Wednesday, October 4, and will be presented by broadcaster and journalist Nicholas Owen.
