Here at Edinburgh Trams, we’re huge rugby fans, and since the tram line opened in 2014, we’ve been inviting game attendees to ‘Try’ the tram to Murrayfield and Hive Stadiums, so we’re proud to throw our support behind Edinburgh Rugby as a Community Partner for the 2024 season.
The partnership formalises a relationship which extends back to the very beginning our Edinburgh operation in 2014.
We’re also very pleased to be sponsoring Edinburgh’s #10 Ross Thompson, especially following the recent news of his extended contract with the team. Ross grew up in Edinburgh and returned to his home city and team in 2024, following a stint in Glasgow. As well as playing as the current Fly-half for the Edinburgh side, he also has 6 caps for Scotland’s international team, and 20 caps for the Scotland U20 squad.
Ross popped down to the depot earlier this month for a look around the workshops and training facilities, where we showed him the ropes - and even offered an alternative career as a tram driver if the whole rugby thing doesn’t pan out!
(“No comment,” said Driver Trainer Sam Anderson.)

The tram provides an environmentally friendly and convenient way for Edinburgh fans to avoid the scrum and glide to the games throughout the season. The stop at Ingliston Park & Ride also makes it easy for visiting fans to get into the city, with trams from every 7 minutes and over 1,000 free parking spaces.
Edinburgh Rugby play their final home game of the regular season on Friday 16 May vs. Ulster, and we’ll be in the stands to cheer them on!
