On 22nd November, the team welcomed some visitors to our tram depot. The BBC Scotland reporter David Miller and his crew had come to see what what our staff get up to during a typical day at Edinburgh Trams.
The day starts early. Well before the sun rises, the control room staff are hard at work checking the energy status of the line and making sure that the there are no faults. Next, the tram drivers arrive, get changed and sign-in and get briefed before heading out to their vehicles. Then the trams start rolling out onto the line and we begin a full day’s testing.
But driving the trams is only one part of what we do. We have a fully packed training schedule for our drivers and controllers; firstly to bring new recruits up to the high standards we all expect, and secondly ongoing training which prepares our frontline staff for each step of the busy testing and commissioning schedule, from now until the launch of passenger service.
After observing the tram depot 'waking up’ in the morning, David and his crew interviewed some of our staff and took a tram to the airport, before heading back to the studio. We were delighted to have the opportunity to show off our depot, our trams, and most importantly the people who make it happen – our staff.
