In October the Whizz Kidz visited Edinburgh. During their stay, they did an accessibility audit of the city and created a fantastic video to help other young wheelchair users get around on the cobbles, hills and trams in the city.
When the Kidz got in touch with us to ask if Edinburgh Trams could help them with their filming, the company was delighted to help. One of the things they wanted to look at was tram accessibility as a new public transport option.
George Fielding, 19 year old Chair of Whizz-Kidz’s youth board said:
Sometimes transport can be a barrier to disabled people, preventing the spontaneity that non-disabled people enjoy - and as a result everything has to be planned. However, whilst in Edinburgh, myself and the rest of Whizz-Kidz’s Kidz board were very impressed by the trams – finding them to be spacious, smooth and speedy for wheelchair users. We unanimously agreed Edinburgh Trams are special - a haven of efficiency and accessibility which should be replicated elsewhere. Well done!
Whizz Kidz's was set up to transform the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need, when they need them – giving them the chance to develop their full potential. It's vision is too see all disabled children’s lives are full of fun, friendship and hope for an independent future. Just like any other kid’s.
