Edinburgh Trams is on track to post record weekend ridership figures for customers travelling to the Royal Highland Show, thanks to some glorious weather and the increasing popularity of Scotland’s largest celebration of farming, food and rural life.

Over the weekend, thousands of visitors to the Royal Highland Show took advantage of increased tram frequency and dedicated event customer service staff which allowed customers to glide past the traffic. More than 20 per cent more customers chose to travel by tram compared to figures relating to the event in 2017.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, explained:

We saw a significant increase in the number of people taking the tram to get to the showground, which is just a short walk from our Ingliston Park & Ride stop.

“We were also fortunate to have some fantastic weather and I’m sure this contributed to both show visitor numbers and the appeal of a swift, comfortable and hassle free journey to the ever popular event.”
