Birthday celebrations on Edinburgh’s popular tramway have taken a colourful twist with the launch of a unique tartan.

Staff across the system will be proudly wearing ties and bow-ties sporting the specially commissioned ‘tram tartan’ design in the run-up to the network’s third anniversary on May 31.

Edinburgh Trams are giving customers the opportunity to get their hands on the limited-edition, eye-catching neckwear in a giveaway competition on social media. Simply like and share the Official Edinburgh Trams’ Facebook page by 31st May to be in with a chance of winning.

Dean Anderson, Customer Experience Manager, explained:

“As part of our birthday celebrations we wanted to tap into our rich heritage - and what better way to do it than by commissioning one of Scotland’s leading tartan designers to come up with an exclusive pattern for us.

“As well as turning heads, our ‘tram tartan’ is sure to become highly sought-after, so we’d urge customers to keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages to find out how they can win some accessories for themselves.”

The tartan has been designed by local company To Be Wed & Highland Kilt Connections, and Adrian Kay at the company commented:

“It has been really exciting for the team to help design and manufacture products for such an iconic company in Edinburgh. I’m sure the striking tartan made up of the company’s signature maroon, platinum and pink colours will be a hit with the staff and customers alike.”

Throughout May, anyone can take part in the tram birthday celebrations and promotions on Facebook and Twitter by following #tramiversary.
