Edinburgh Trams has scooped two prestigious awards at an event celebrating the success of businesses across the city.

Shortlisted for five accolades at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, the tram took top honours in the High Growth and Excellence in Health and Safety categories.

Judges were impressed by the fact patronage has increased by 10% taking customer journeys to 5.6 million in 2016 while enjoying revenue growth of 12%.

In terms of Health and Safety, the tram demonstrated a comprehensive policy that puts the welfare of customers and employees at the heart of its operations. At the same time, it operates a robust assessment process to identify and address specific safety issues such as ‘tram surfing’.

Edinburgh Trams General Manager, Lea Harrison, commented:

“We’re delighted to be recognised in this way by Edinburgh’s premier business organisation.

“Our success at the Chamber Awards is testament to the dedication of staff and reflects their hard work when it comes to driving the growth and delivering a safe, reliable and efficient mode of transport for the city.

“This is reflected in the fact that we have increased tram frequency to every seven minutes throughout the day to meet growing demand and have plans to introduce even more services in the near future.”

The accolades were presented at a gala dinner held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel where Edinburgh Trams was also in the running for awards in the Creative Marketing, Young Leader of the Year and Best Business categories.
