Following a series of successful daytime trials on the Newhaven line, the next stage of testing and commissioning will commence on 18th May ahead of the launch of passenger services.

To deliver a smooth introduction of the extended network, the full timetable between Edinburgh Airport and Newhaven will now be thoroughly tested to ensure that the award-winning operator is able to maintain the highest standards of service reliability.

Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams Head of Operations, explained:

Thanks to the excellent progress made on other key phases of the project, we now need to make sure the new timetable operates as expected.

Most customers will hardly notice any difference as trams will continue to serve all stops between the airport and St Andrew Square from every seven minutes throughout the day.

We would also like to inform customers that, for testing purposes, our platform information boards, and on-tram displays may show ‘Newhaven’ as the final destination but, until the extended line opens, services will continue to terminate at the St Andrew Square stop.

The new timetable will be in operation seven days a week and customers are being urged to keep an eye on the Edinburgh Trams official website for information on service updates.

Alternatively, they can also contact the operator’s Customer Service team, which is available either via phone, email, or a live chat, and more details can be found here.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, commented:

With over 99% of customer satisfaction, we always pride ourselves on providing a premium service for both residents and tourists alike. Therefore, this latest step in the process reflects just how committed we are to keeping the highest standards once we launch services to Newhaven.
