Transport for Edinburgh has introduced a brand new feature for its m-ticket app, making it the first in the UK to offer mobile ticket sharing.

This new feature, created in partnership with app developers CoreThree, allows customers travelling on Edinburgh Trams and Lothian Buses to now share m-tickets amongst friends, families and colleagues or anyone who’s also downloaded the app on their smartphone.

This latest innovation was released in an update to the app in early November.

The process of sharing has been developed so tickets can be easily sent to another user through the smartphone’s native sharing technology such as Bluetooth, AirDrop, e-mail, social media or text.

Nigel Serafini – Head of Commercial & Business Development at Lothian Buses, said:

The new 'Share' facility is an industry first and continues our focus on delivering innovative value for money options for our passengers.

In its first two years the app has proved to be extremely popular with 125,000 people having already downloaded it and over 50,000 tickets sold through it every week.

We're delighted to be able to continue to offer our customers new and improved methods of paying for their travel.

Ashley Murdoch – CEO at CoreThree Ltd, said:

We are constantly reviewing and innovating our product features to make sure we're staying true to our commitment to using technology to make people's lives easier.”

“We were delighted to be able to develop these new features for Transport for Edinburgh, they are yet another reason why m-tickets are the smart choice for passengers.

In addition to this ground-breaking update, users can now also save 10% when they purchase their DAYtickets in bundles by tapping on the Swipe Tap Save option in the app. This discount is exclusively available to m-ticket customers.
