New technology to make travelling by tram even easier in Edinburgh is set to ‘go live’ from today (Thursday 28th April).

Upgraded platform validators, recently installed across the network, can be used by customers to touch-on their Ridacards, concession passes and other smartcards before they board the tram to ensure they are valid for travel.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, commented:

“After a thorough testing programme over the past few weeks, we are delighted that the new validators are now operational. They will make travelling by tram even easier by offering a quicker and more convenient way to validate smartcards for travel.

“Their ‘switch on’ also marks another significant step forward for the tramway as we look forward to the launch of new services next year following the completion of the Trams to Newhaven project.”

To use the new validators, located at the end of each platform, customers just tap them with card or pass and wait for a green tick on the display. A red cross means that the card has not been accepted for travel and customers should buy a ticket before boarding the tram.

Further information can be found on signage at each tram stop and regular updates are also provided on Edinburgh Trams’ social media channels, including TwitterFacebook, and Instagram.
