Edinburgh will see a new station open this week, providing a major new dedicated interchange between tram and rail services in the city.

Opening on Sunday 11 December, Edinburgh Gateway will help integrate the ScotRail network with Edinburgh Trams, providing passengers with quick, efficient and hassle free travel to Edinburgh Airport.

Located between Edinburgh Tram’s Gogarburn and Gyle Centre tram stops, the station will feature a number of facilities to help passengers complete their journeys including a booking office, lifts, escalators, waiting rooms, toilets, journey planning information and electronic ticket machines.

The tramway will be seamlessly linked to rail platforms by a covered footbridge.

George Lowder, Chief Executive of Transport for Edinburgh said:

"The opening of the Edinburgh Gateway brings us another step closer to fully integrated passenger transport for Edinburgh and the Edinburgh City Region.

"Many cities already benefit from a tram-train interchange, and the team at Edinburgh Trams looks forward to welcoming even more passengers who wish to travel to the airport or into the city centre."

The interchange will also provide another option for ScotRail passengers travelling to Edinburgh Business Park or the Gyle Shopping Centre, both of which have their own dedicated tram stops.

Edinburgh Trams General Manager, Lea Harrison said:

"This is an important milestone for our network. We're all about providing fast, reliable and seamless public transport options and the opening of the Gateway stop will be a real boost for our customers."

The station will be open between 06:00 – 00:10 Monday to Saturday, with Sunday opening times to be published shortly. Integrated tram and train tickets will be available to purchase at the station or online prior to journey.
