Record-breaking customer numbers have put the Edinburgh Trams team on track for top accolades at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Currently Scotland’s Number One Public Transport Operator, the city’s acclaimed tramway is now aiming to scoop the coveted title of ‘Large Business of the Year’ at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Awards, an event that celebrates the success of local businesses.

The operator has also been shortlisted in the ‘High Growth Business of the Year’ category thanks to the efforts of its expanded workforce, both before and after the launch of the services to Newhaven, to bring the benefits of tram travel to hundreds of thousands of new customers.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams’ Managing Director, commented:

To be recognised in two different categories at these high-profile awards reflects the positive impact the expanded tramway is having on the city.

All of our colleagues can be proud of the part they have played in the business’ story to date. Undoubtedly, the network is already helping to re-establish the city’s vibrant economy while laying the foundations for its future growth and prosperity.

During last summer’s festival season in August, Edinburgh Trams enjoyed its busiest month ever, with around 1,200,00 customer journeys recorded. More recently, an average of 20,000 revellers took advantage of free, all-night trams during the Hogmanay celebrations.

To match the growing popularity of the system, the Edinburgh Trams team has also grown to over 290, with additional drivers and other front-line staff taken on as part of a successful recruitment campaign ahead of the Newhaven launch.

The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Awards will take place in February and further information can be found here.
