Edinburgh’s award-winning tram network is celebrating its eighth birthday today (Tuesday, May 31), and to toast the anniversary, customers are in with a chance to enjoy a very special tipple!

In partnership with Johnnie Walker Princes Street, Edinburgh Trams is giving away two Journey of Flavour tour tickets to the lucky winner of its special birthday competition.

To enter a free draw for the prize of a visit to one of the city’s latest and most popular tourist attractions, all they need to do is post a birthday message on Facebook before 12pm on Friday, June 3. A winner, who will also receive free tram travel on the day of the tour, will be picked at random.

Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, Lea Harrison, commented:

Since trams first returned to Edinburgh on May 31, 2014, they’ve proved a huge hit with both locals and visitors, providing a vital transport link between the airport and the city centre.

This birthday provides an ideal opportunity to say a huge thank you to customers for their unwavering loyalty and support, and to our staff who have worked so hard to deliver a first-class service.

This proved particularly important during the Covid-19 pandemic when they helped to keep the city moving, and they continue to do marvellous job welcoming back customers following the lifting of restrictions, and as we work towards the launch of services to Newhaven.

One member of the Edinburgh team joining in the celebrations today is Dougie White, who joined the team around two years before the official launch of services.

Since then, the driver trainer has seen plenty of changes and the tramway become one of the most popular in the UK, picking up numerous awards along the way.

I started as one of just a handful of staff, but we’ve grown to be one of the highest-profile organisations in the city, he said.

Now we’re all looking forward to further growth as we build towards the completion of the Trams to Newhaven project.
