The world’s oldest intercity derby is set to return to the city this month, and Edinburgh Trams offers an easy way to travel to and from Scotland’s most iconic sports venue.

As Edinburgh looks forward to hosting the eagerly-anticipated 1872 Cup clash between Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors on Saturday, December 30, the city’s tram network has announced the return of its popular ‘Rugby Return Tickets’.

Priced at just £3.80 for adults and £1.90 for under 16s, they are great value for money and, what’s more, they can be bought online and printed out or simply downloaded onto a smart device before travel.

Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams’ Head of Service Delivery, commented:

Scottish Gas Murrayfield has been the setting for so many epic rugby fixtures, and this year’s 1872 Cup promises to match the excitement of previous years.

As well as saving money and the hassle of finding a parking spot in the city centre, by taking the tram customers can avoid the inevitable congestion on the day. Those driving from beyond Edinburgh can leave their cars at Ingliston Park & Ride, which is free of charge and has a tram stop just a very short walk away.

Anyone heading for the game by tram should note that the operator will be running ‘a split service’ from 7pm on December 30 until about 10am on New Year’s Day, to make room for the renowned Hogmanay celebrations in town.

Throughout that period, trams will serve all stops between Newhaven and Picardy Place, and between Edinburgh Airport and West End. Further information, including all festive timetables, can be found here.
