Transport for Edinburgh customers will have a new way of paying for their bus and tram journeys from 1 September, through a new pre-paid smartcard - 'citysmart'.

Unlike a Ridacard, the citysmart card has no personal identification on it making it easy to share amongst flat mates, friends, family or colleagues.

The card, which can store up to 50 adult single journeys for Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Tram is simple to use - just hold it against the bus ticket machine or the tram stop card validator to use.

Ian Craig, Chief Executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said:

Everyone has their own preferences for getting around the city and how they like to pay. We are constantly improving the fare options available to our passengers so that they can buy and board in a way that suits them best.

Innovation is at the forefront of our business and along with the introduction of this new pre-paid smartcard, we will see our whole fleet fitted with free Wi-Fi and a further delivery of Hybrid vehicles before the end of 2014.

The citysmart card is available from online or any Transport for Edinburgh Travelshop.
