The number of cars parking at Ingliston Park & Ride during the festive shopping season has nearly doubled on last year.

Over 10,500 cars parked at the site between 23 November and 13 December compared with 5568 over the same period in 2013. The facility has been serviced by the tram since 31st May along with the number 35 bus which has been in place since the site opened.

Ingliston Park & Ride received a Transport for Edinburgh branding overhaul and a major marketing campaign push this year with the advent of the tram service launch.

Transport for Edinburgh Chief Executive Ian Craig said:

We saw an immediate jump in the number of cars parked at Ingliston after tram launch which you would expect but what’s really pleasing is a surge in the figures during festival season and a near doubling in the run up to Christmas.

Ingliston had new signage and a marketing and social media campaign to push them to city visitors as much as possible so it’s good to see results coming through.  The City’s Park & Ride facilities are a real asset for anyone who wants to avoid the traffic and a parking challenge once in the city centre.

We’ll continue to promote Ingliston and the other Park & Rides in the New Year as they provide an easy way to access everything Edinburgh has to offer with much less hassle involved.

On average around 325 cars park at Ingliston Park and Ride each day. This is expected to rise next year with tram operating across the full twelve months of next year.

Car Parking is free at all Park & Rides and tram or bus tickets can be bought at ticket machines (tram), from bus drivers or at terminal buildings.
