For the duration of the 3-day partial shutdown due to engineering works at the West End tram stop, please be aware that Platform Validators at West End, Princes Street and St Andrew Square tram stops will be turned off. We encourage customers to only use Tap On, Tap Off (TOTO) if you’re travelling on either side of the shutdown, or are planning to make further journeys under our daily or weekly fare caps across trams and buses.

Ticket Acceptance

To continue your journey using Lothian Buses or ScotRail services between Haymarket and Picardy Place, you should buy a ticket from a Ticket Vending Machine, the Bus & Tram app or ET App, to ensure you can present a physical or digital ticket to the driver or gate staff.

Ticket acceptance allows you to use a pre-existing tram ticket to travel on specific routes across the shutdown but does not apply to TOTO. The details of which routes will be accepting tram tickets are below.

TOTO will still be available to use at open stops, so you can use it on either side of the shutdown.

Ticket Acceptance Services

Lothian Buses Service 4 between Dalry Road (for Haymarket) and Leith Street (for Picardy Place)

Lothian Buses Service 25 between Dalry Road (for Haymarket) and Leith Street (for Picardy Place)

Lothian Buses Airlink Service 100 from Waverley Bridge (for existing Return Tickets to Edinburgh Airport only).

ScotRail services from Haymarket to Waverley only.

Important
  • When you get on a Service 4 or Service 25 bus, please present your physical or digital ticket to the driver. Lothian Buses drivers can’t validate if you’ve started a TOTO journey, so tapping a contactless card or device will be treated as an additional journey tap.
  • All other ticket options will be available at Ticket Vending Machines, (apart from on closed stops) the Bus & Tram app, the ET App and Edinburgh Ticket.
  • If you think you’ve been overcharged, please contact our Customer Relations team here as soon as possible
  • Use the journey planner on our website and tick ‘Include buses’ to find alternative routes for travel
  • Allow a little extra time for your journey due to the disruption
