We’ll be shutting a section of the tram network for 72 hours in September so that the network can undergo essential engineering work as part of our programme of planned renewals. We understand this will cause disruption to our customers and would like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused.
Following normal service on Friday 26 September, trams will not run between Picardy Place and Haymarket to make way for the replacement of track points at Shandwick Place.
Tram stops at St Andrew Square, Princes Street and West End will be closed from start of service on Saturday 27 September, and will re-open for normal service on Tuesday 30 September. Services will still run on either side of the closure between Edinburgh Airport and Haymarket, and Newhaven and Picardy Place.
Marilena Papadopoulou, Edinburgh Trams Head of Projects & Renewals, said: “These works are part of a wider programme of asset renewals which allow us to maintain and modernise the system, and we’re doing all we can to keep the city moving once they are underway.
“Members of our team will be on hand at key locations and at closed stops to offer travel advice, and to help customers complete their onward journeys.
“We would ask customers to allow a little extra time for their journeys, and to thank them in advance for their understanding while we undertake these necessary works.”
We’re working closely with the City of Edinburgh Council and other transport providers to secure additional transport options for customers until usual service is restored.
So that we can minimise disruption, tram tickets will be accepted for travel on some Lothian Buses services and on ScotRail services from Haymarket to Waverley Station. You can see details below.
