At Edinburgh Trams, safety is our number one priority. We always encourage caution on and around the tramline, regardless of whether you’re a passenger, pedestrian, or driver.

To remind those travelling near the tramline, we’re promoting the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board’s ‘Two Lines = STOP’ safety campaign, prompting pedestrians to pay more attention when travelling near the tramway.

Trams are quieter than other modes of transport, and if you’re not paying attention, you may not hear them approaching. We want to continue to raise public awareness to the ‘Two Lines = STOP’ campaign and urge pedestrians to be mindful of their surroundings and stop before crossing a tram track.

Don McClurg, Head of Safety & Standards at Edinburgh Trams, said:

“As one of the key public transport operators in Edinburgh, we’re always looking for ways to encourage and promote safety in and around the tramlines.

“Regardless of if you’ve lived in the city your whole life, you’re a new resident, or simply just a tourist visiting the Scottish capital, it’s important we all play our part in keeping ourselves and those around us safe near public transport.”

You’ll find the campaign messaging promoted on trams and at key tram stops. So, remember, Two Lines = STOP, do not cross the tram tracks without exercising caution and ensuring it is safe to do so. We all have a role to play when it comes to safety.
