Today, we’re marking a special milestone at Edinburgh Trams, as we celebrate 13 years since our first employees, Ally Petrie and Jon McCulley, joined the business.
Both Ally and Jon began their journey before a single tram had entered service and have played a huge part in the growth and success of the company ever since.
“When I started, there was nothing here – no track, no trams in service – so the biggest change has definitely been seeing a full network come to life.” said Jon.
Ally echoed the sentiment: “There were no trams, no length of track, so to see how much we’ve grown is really rewarding.”
Both began as Controller/Drivers at a time when the dedicated team was just three people in a mostly empty depot. From there, their careers have taken them across the business as the tramway opened in 2014, and was extended in 2023.
Jon progressed into being a full-time controller as more drivers were employed and then moved to duty management before stepping up as Operations Manager during the pandemic. Ally, meanwhile, has held roles in driver training, control, duty management, and was then seconded to the Trams to Newhaven project as an operations manager, before moving into his newly promoted role as Sales Manager.
Reflecting on their journey, both agreed the best part has been growing alongside the organisation,
“It’s been amazing to see the transformation – from a depot with no track to the network we have today, we’ve seen it all,” Jon explained.
“It’s great to have seen trams become an everyday part of so many people’s lives, both for locals and visitors alike.” he continued.
Ally agreed, adding:
“We’re lucky to have played a part in the Edinburgh Trams journey and look forward to continuing to being part of the growth of the business in the future.”
As Edinburgh Trams continues to look to the future, Ally and Jon’s dedication and hard work stand as a testament to the company’s values.
We’d like to congratulate them both on reaching this milestone and thank them for their outstanding contribution to our success from the very beginning.
