At Edinburgh Trams, safety on and around the trams is our number one priority. Whilst our trams run on their own tracks and within strict operational limits to ensure this, we also share the road with other road users throughout the city centre and Leith. Safer roads benefit everyone – drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and tram users alike.
That’s why we’re supporting the Scottish Government and Road Safety Scotland’s road safety campaign to tackle speeding across Scotland.
1 in 5 deaths on Scotland’s roads are caused by speeding, so we’re backing this campaign to encourage drivers to slow down to help reduce collisions and casualties and keep Scotland’s roads safer.
Speeding. You only have to lose control once.
This campaign is a call to drivers across Scotland to respect speed limits and remember that even “a little bit” over the limit can have devastating consequences. Everyone should feel safe whilst sharing the roads with other road users and #ArriveAlive to their destination.
Don McClurg, Edinburgh Trams Head of Safety & Standards, said:
“Safety on and around the tramlines is of the utmost importance for us here at Edinburgh Trams, and as we share the road with other road users, we are in full support of this campaign.
“We will continue to work with the Scottish Government, Road Safety Scotland and Police Scotland to promote their message over the next few months, and urge drivers to respect speed limits within the city and elsewhere across the country, to help keep everyone safer.”
