Edinburgh’s tramway is in the running for a range of prestigious awards at a major event celebrating excellence in the light rail sector.

Every year, the Global Light Rail Awards highlights exceptional innovation, performance and customer service across a range of categories and Edinburgh Trams has been shortlisted in five of them.

As well as nominating it for the coveted Operator of the Year title, awards judges were also impressed with the company’s entries for Best Customer Initiative, Team of the Year, Most Improved System and Project of the Year under €50m.

One of the oldest rivalries in Scottish rugby is returning to BT Murrayfield at the weekend, and Edinburgh Trams is gearing up to help fans get to the heart of the action.

On Saturday, September 23, the stadium will host the Royal Bank of Scotland Scottish Rugby Varsity match between Edinburgh and St Andrews universities, and previous encounters have seen over 10,000 supporters flock to the stands.

Today, a special ceremony is set to mark the completion of a project that’ll see Edinburgh’s entire fleet of 27 trams equipped with defibrillators.

As part of a pioneering partnership with St John Scotland, the city’s tramway became the first in the UK to carry the life-saving devices when they were installed in the core fleet of operational trams.

Due to the redevelopment of Tynecastle Stadium, several Ladbrokes Premiership fixtures are to be played at BT Murrayfield Stadium.

The following upcoming fixtures will be played at BT Murrayfield:

  • Saturday 21st October 2017: Hearts v St Johnstone (3pm kick off)
  • Saturday 28th October 2017: Hearts v Rangers (12.30pm kick off)

Travelling on Edinburgh Trams

Edinburgh Trams will be running special ‘bike only’ trams in support of Scotland’s largest annual cycling event, which returns on Sunday, September 10.

Anyone taking part in Pedal for Scotland who has pre-purchased a ‘Tram Transport’ wristband can take advantage of the additional, non-stop services between Haymarket and Ingliston Park & Ride before and after a packed programme of cycling challenges.

We are celebrating our busiest ever month after recording over half a million customer journeys during the city’s festival season worth over £1 million in revenue.

At peak times, additional services were introduced between the airport and the West End to keep up with demand, whilst overnight trams on Saturdays proved a particular hit with thousands of festival-goers.

Dean Anderson, Edinburgh Trams Customer Experience Manager, explained:

Edinburgh’s festival season draws to a spectacular close next week with a breath-taking fireworks display that’s set to attract huge crowds for an evening of dramatic pyrotechnics and stirring music.

Every year the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert draws around 250,000 spectators and 2017’s event looks set to be as popular as ever, featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous ballet music accompanied by exquisite dancing fireworks.

Edinburgh Trams has announced its first ever commercial partnership with CR Smith.

The two-year deal will see 18 of Edinburgh Trams’ 27 fleet wrapped in a highly visual campaign that aims to promote a ‘Window to Scotland’ and the breadth of CR Smith’s customer base across the country.

The inaugural advertising deal was negotiated by a unique city partnership between Marketing Edinburgh, Transport for Edinburgh (TfE) and Edinburgh Trams, on behalf of City of Edinburgh Council.

Our new ticket offer looks set to prove a hit with tourists who can now enjoy a range of exclusive discounts across the city while benefiting from the flexibility of an open ended airport return ticket.

We have teamed up with more than 20 partners to offer holders of the new ‘Edinburgh Ticket’ great savings at food outlets, shops, tourist attractions and accommodation around Edinburgh and the Lothians.

An epic outdoor experience, ‘Bloom’ will combine public artwork, animation, lighting and music to mark the launch of this year’s Edinburgh International Festival, and the city’s tramway is giving away tickets for the spectacular event.

On Friday and Saturday (August 4 and 5), Bloom will transform St Andrew Square into a magical night garden, and followers of Edinburgh Trams on social media have a chance of enjoying the best views, whilst avoiding the queues, with advance tickets.
