Some of the biggest names in pop will be taking to the stage at Edinburgh Castle from this weekend, and the tram is standing by to make sure fans don’t miss out on seeing their idols.
As part of celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut album, Wet Wet Wet will kick off the first of three concerts at the Castle on Saturday (July 15). The following Tuesday (July 18), Olly Murs will perform there as part of his UK summer tour.
The season of concerts will conclude next Saturday (July 22) when Deacon Blue – also celebrating 30 years since their breakthrough in the album charts – will perform to thousands of fans.
For all three events, doors will open at 6.45pm and, with the Princes Street stop just a short walk from the entrance of the unique venue, it’s easy for fans to take a tram to ensure they don’t miss any of the hits.
At the end of the shows, which finish at 10.30pm, the last tram will depart Princes Street bound for the airport at 11.35pm. And, with return travel priced from just £3.20, the tram offers excellent value too.
Dean Anderson, Edinburgh Trams Customer Experience Manager, explained:
“With Wet Wet Wet performing many tracks from their acclaimed Popped In Souled Out album, around 8,000 fans are expected at the Castle on Saturday, with similar numbers looking forward to seeing Olly Murs and Deacon Blue over the following week.
“With trams every 7–10 minutes, the city’s tramway will help them avoid the traffic while our Ingliston Park & Ride offers a great place to leave the car before jumping on a tram for an effortless journey to the Castle.
“These promise to be fantastic shows and we expect all trams to be busy both immediately before and after concerts, so we recommend all customers take this into account when planning their journey.”
