Rugby fans heading to BT Murrayfield Stadium for Scotland’s Six Nations home fixtures are being urged to take the tram to tackle the traffic.

On Sunday, February 11, Scotland take on France, and to make sure supporters miss none of the action, Edinburgh Trams is planning extra services before the 3.00pm kick-off and after the final whistle.

Dean Anderson, Customer Experience Manager at Edinburgh Trams, explained:

“As you’d expect, the match is a sell-out and we’re putting special plans in place to help fans flocking to the stadium.

“To meet the extra demand we’ll be running trams every three minutes, and have additional staff on hand across the system to assist customers.”

Similar arrangements will be in place on Saturday, February 24, when home fans will be hoping Scotland can prise back the Calcutta Cup from England.

With frequent and direct services to the stadium from locations such as Edinburgh Airport, the city centre and Ingliston Park & Ride, the tram offers supporters the best way to avoid congestion around the ground, and expensive parking, which will also be in short supply.

For fans travelling from further afield, Edinburgh Trams also offers interchanges with trains at the Edinburgh Gateway stop in addition to Edinburgh Park Station, Haymarket and St Andrew Square (for Waverley).

Dean added:

“The tram also offers great value, with our most popular day return tickets costing just £3.20 and airport open returns priced at £8.50. All fans are reminded that they will need to buy their ticket from a tram stop ticket machine, or by using the Transport for Edinburgh App before boarding.

“We’d also urge all customers to allow a little extra time for their journeys on match days as we expect the system to be exceptionally busy.”
