Our partnership with St John and the City’s public access defibrillator project has seen the life-saving devices placed on each of our trams.

Edinburgh Trams is amongst a number of businesses to host the devices in key locations across the city.

The HeartStart FRx defibrillators include advanced features to help guide the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest. With easy set-up, clear voice prompts, and rugged design, HeartStart FRx has been designed for on-the-spot responders.

You can learn how to use the defibrillator below in the video below.

Out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) has been identified as a significant healthcare challenge in Scotland. Approximately 3,500 people undergo attempted resuscitation each year after OHCA, but currently only around 1 in 20 survive to hospital discharge.

Defibrillation works in synergy with CPR, and is most effective the earlier it is performed.  Delivering a defibrillatory electrical shock to the heart within 3-5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 75%.
