Tram Gears Up For Six Nations

Scotland’s Six Nations campaign gets underway on Saturday (February 4) with a home clash against Ireland, and fans travelling to the match are being urged to make the most of Edinburgh’s tram system for a hassle-free trip to the BT Murrayfield Stadium.

With frequent and direct services to the stadium from locations such as Edinburgh Airport, the city centre and Ingliston Park & Ride, the tram offers the best way to avoid congestion around the ground ahead of kick-off at 2.25pm. Edinburgh Trams also offers interchanges with trains at its new Edinburgh Gateway stop in addition to Edinburgh Park Station, Haymarket and St Andrew Square (for Waverley).

Dean Anderson, Customer Experience Manager at Edinburgh Trams, explained:

“We are also gearing up to transport supporters to the other tournament matches scheduled to take place at Murrayfield this year, including Scotland v Wales on February 25 and Scotland v Italy on March 18.

“Whenever Scotland are at home the city is always extremely busy, making the tram the ideal way to travel to the ground.

“With return tickets for journeys in the City Fare Zone costing just £3.20 for adults and £1.60 for children, the tram also provides excellent value for money whilst helping fans avoid the hassle of finding a parking space close to the stadium.”

For anyone travelling to the game from the airport, open ended return tickets are priced at £8.50 for adults and £4.50 for children, and all fans are reminded that they will need to buy their ticket from a tram stop ticket machine, or by using the Transport for Edinburgh App before boarding.

“We are also urging all customers to have their tickets ready for inspection at the gateline, which will be in place at the Murrayfield Stadium tram stop,” said Dean. “They should also allow a little extra time for their journey and set off well ahead of kick-off as we expect to be very busy as fans soak up all the excitement!”

The carriage of bikes will not be permitted on these event days.
