Edinburgh’s festival season draws to a spectacular close next week with a breath-taking fireworks display that’s set to attract huge crowds for an evening of dramatic pyrotechnics and stirring music.
Every year the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert draws around 250,000 spectators and 2017’s event looks set to be as popular as ever, featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous ballet music accompanied by exquisite dancing fireworks.
Set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh’s historic castle, the concert on Monday, August 28, will also open and close with two rousing Scottish masterpieces: Sir James MacMillan’s infectious ceilidh-inspired Stomp and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ joyful show-stopper, An Orkney Wedding.
The pre-show music is expected to start at 9pm with around 100,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky from 9.30pm.
Thanks to the tram, it’s easy to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a thrilling show, with fast, frequent service to the heart of the action from locations such as Edinburgh Airport, Ingliston Park & Ride and Edinburgh Park Station.

“Once again we’re gearing up for one of our busiest nights of the year as thousands of visitors glide into the city by tram to avoid the traffic and the hassle of finding a parking space.”
To make way for the celebrations, Princes Street will be closed from 7.30pm. From this time, trams will be running to and from the West End and Edinburgh Airport only. The last full route departure from Edinburgh Airport will be 6.33pm. The last full route departure from York Place will be 7.16pm. Trams will run from the West End until approximately 11.38pm.
