The 14km tram route between York Place and Edinburgh Airport feeds into a network of over 70 bus routes. It interconnects with several buses, as well as two railway stations giving Edinburgh a fully integrated transport system.

How to purchase tickets

Using M-tickets on your mobile

Use your smartphone to purchase tickets via our m-tickets app. Activate your ticket by scanning a QR code on the platform just before boarding.

Ticket machines and Paypoints

Buy your ticket from the ticket vending machine. Coins and cards accepted. Please retain your ticket until your journey is complete.

Best for you - Ridacard

For regular travellers, there's no better option. From £48 a month Ridacard gives you unlimited travel on city centre and Edinburgh Airport services on board tram and bus. The more you travel, the more you save. Ridacard holders enjoy access to NightBus services too so they can travel around the clock.

Best for business - citysmart

Store up to 50 single journeys in the city zone for tram and bus with the new prepaid citysmart card. citysmart is the durable, top-up electronic smart card. Just press your citysmart card against the platform validator at a tram stop or on bus and a ticket will be deducted from your balance. Share a citysmart card with whoever you want - friends, family or colleagues.

Get started with your Ridacard or citysmart at either a city centre Travelshop or let us come to you with our pop up travel shop. If you would like to top up your existing Ridacard or citysmart you can come and see us. Ridacard can also be topped up at one of the many Paypoint outlets.

Swipe, tap, travel

The official Transport for Edinburgh app means there's no need to search for the exact fare again. Instead, you can buy and load your phone with m-tickets. Your m-tickets can then be activated and used as you need them. The app also uses real-time information and can send push notifications so you'll always know when your tram or bus is due.

How can we help?

What's the best option for occasional travel?
Citysmart cards are loaded with single journeys and are totally transferable. The card can be topped up on board, in our Travelshops, or why not get in touch and let us come to you?

Can we send visitors from overseas a ticket to get from the airport to our offices?
SOON - we are working on making this possible and are progressing options online and through our M-Ticket App

Can you provide specific, relevant timetables for our staff
YES - we could, but why not encourage your colleagues to download our Transport for Edinburgh App? They can customise it with their regular journeys and it shows live departure times from favourite stops.

Can our staff get in touch with you if they have more questions?
YES - scroll down to our 'Get in touch' section and provide the relevant contact details. Alternatively, why not arrange for us to come to you with our pop up travel shop where we can provide further information and answer any questions?

Is Ridacard valid on Edinburgh Trams?
YES - Ridacard is also valid on all Lothian Buses services including AIRLINK and NightBuses

Is Ridacard valid on Edinburgh Bus Tours?
NO - but we can offer a discount code for your intranet or staff newsletter or some free tickets for a staff competition
